DEF or Diesel exhaust fluid has been efficiently transitioned into the present day’s trucking industry. It allows the diesel trucks to lessen the different kinds of negative impact on the environment. But it is important to pay attention to the fact that DEF is associated with its own set of disadvantages. If it is not contained and handled properly, it tends to get contaminated. This can have an effect on the vehicles exhaust and sensors in which it is being used. So just in case you are planning to use DEF, you need to make sure that you are having the tight kind of DEF equipment. This is very important for proper dispensing as well as storage. The major cause of the system failure associated with DEF equipped vehicles is basically because of contaminated DEF. You cannot use ordinary equipments for the purpose as these are unable to efficiently seal DEF from the different contaminations present in the outside world.
If you are using the usual diesel pumps then you will be permitting the contaminants from outside the tank. These will eventually react with DEF and lead to formation of crystals. These are referred to as creeps and build up around pump walls, pump impellers, couplings, motor shafts and pump seals and break them down. In the worst cases, these crystals can also lead to breakage of the pump motor parts and make the complete system inoperable. The normal pumping equipments contain aluminum, copper, brass, zinc and various ionized metals. These are not good for the dispersal of DEF and only special equipments should be used.
